PETALING JAYA, 7TH FEBRUARY 2023 – Australian developer EXAL marked its entry into the Malaysian market late last year with the purpose of building a sustainable space for multi-generational living. Founded in 2016, EXAL has quickly developed an impressive track record for modern and sustainable living. Now, Managing Director Albert Ko – is bringing EXAL back to his roots through the SΓ“L Estate project in Kuching, Sarawak –  the company’s first-ever project on Malaysian soil, EXAL is looking to incorporate a functional and progressive design, to assimilate revolving lifestyle needs with nature here.

With increasing concerns about climate change, alongside community interactions, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations now form a key part of company strategy across various industries. A survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) reveals that 18% of Malaysia’s corporate sectors, including construction, have made a commitment to net zero emissions β€” and the property industry is leading the charge.  In line with this, developers, such as EXAL, are working to meet these concerns, refocusing priorities to instead concentrate on the incorporation of sustainable infrastructure and liveable spaces. 

A boutique developer which had its start in Western Australia, EXAL brings a combined experience of over 25 years in real estate to this project. The Malaysian development, known as SΓ“L Estate, is situated on Arang Road West, Kuching, Sarawak. The RM365 million residential project covers a 31-acre (28.5ha) area and boasts meticulously crafted solar-orientated structures with a beautifully functional design. Prioritizing sustainable, multi-generational living, through SΓ“L Estate, EXAL seeks to harness the unexplored potential of Sarawak’s property market.

The development currently features 269 bespoke homes across three phases, with 70% of the phase one property sold, while the rollout for phase two is slated for Q4 2023.

Albert himself has over a decade of experience in property development, having founded Lumen Properties in 2009 before moving on to found EXAL, and leads the strategic development of the company, with a primary focus on the sales and project marketing of the developments.Β 

Some of their spotlighted projects in Australia, which are currently ongoing include:

  • Waterford Purpose-Built Student Accommodation, which is located at the doorstep of Curtin University and Canning College. The proposed development comprises private student rooms and several retail outlets and will be the first privately operated student accommodation within close proximity to the university, providing safe and secure accommodation to students of the university.
