Graphisoft integrates AI-powered visualizer into its Building Information Modeling software, Archicad, allowing users to easily and quickly generate photorealistic design options

Graphisoft, the leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software developer for architecture and multidisciplinary design, has recently introduced Archicad AI Visualizer. Powered by Stable Diffusion, a world-class AI-driven image generation tool, the new feature creates detailed 3D visualizations during the early design stages thanks to a simple user interface optimized for architecture and interior design.

Archicad AI Visualizer produces design alternatives in the early design phase by adding details, context, and ideas to the original concept. The tool is integrated into its flagship BIM software, Archicad, with no additional purchase required. Users can start by creating a simple concept model in Archicad. Then, any number of refined design variations can be generated using text prompts or a few descriptive words.

The new capability aligns with Graphisoft’s multi-lane product innovation roadmap, demonstrating its commitment to advancing architecture, multidisciplinary design, team collaboration, and a productive ecosystem. This transparent roadmap outlines key innovations powered by their Adaptive Hybrid Framework technology, ensuring rapid delivery of high-quality features and seamless integration of innovative technologies, such as AI. 

Kiss is optimistic about the AEC industry’s readiness to embrace AI despite its historical reputation as a digital laggard. In recent years, the industry has seen encouraging technology adoption and growing awareness of the benefits of digital tools. The market for AI in construction is set to snowball with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.31% to reach USD 9.53 billion by 2028, exhibiting the broad potential of AI adoption in the industry.

Graphisoft plans to continue its research and invest in AI and Machine Learning to assist and allow designers to focus on their profession’s creative and value-adding aspects. Some examples of AI-assisted tasks are design optimization, sustainability, documentation, and automation of other time-consuming tasks.

In an interview, Kiss addressed the long-standing concerns about job displacement and skill gaps associated with widespread AI adoption.

While AI will undoubtedly disrupt the industry, it is unlikely to displace architects but will certainly restructure their roles. AI’s strength lies in connecting inputs and outputs but lacks the creativity and human touch required to conceive novel designs. AI tools like the Archicad AI Visualizer can inspire and help architects explore ideas more efficiently, while human architects remain the driving force behind innovative design,” Kiss explained. 

While still in the early stages, AI holds immense potential to revolutionize the AEC industry, and architects who embrace continuous learning will be at the forefront of this transformation. Architects must stay abreast of advancements as AI technology evolves, acquiring new knowledge about AI algorithms and applications. Moreover, architects must explore innovative ways to integrate AI throughout the project lifecycle.
